ShareBaby provides diapers, clothing and gear to highly effective community organizations- working to ensure Baltimore’s young children get the best start in life!

ShareBaby believes that every child deserves the proper supplies and equipment for the best start in life. ShareBaby collects diapers, clothing, and other basic goods and distributes these items to families in need through community-based organizations.

The Need

  • According to the Annie E. Casey Foundation, 33% of children in our City live below the poverty line- the highest rate in Maryland.

  • Diapers and baby gear are not allocated through federal or state assistance programs. The only monies that can be used are TANF which must also be used to cover rent, utilities, transportation and many other essential family costs. For poor working families, diapers alone can account for up to 12% of gross income.

  • 1 in 3 families in the United States suffers from diaper need according to the National Diaper Bank Network. Using 2014 U.S. Census numbers, ShareBaby estimates that there are 25,000 children of diaper age living in poverty in Baltimore City.

  • Families dealing with diaper need face financial burden, maternal depression and increased barriers to work and childcare. Their children suffer consequences ranging from diaper rash, UTIs and increased incidence of child abuse.

Our Impact

Since its founding in November, 2014, ShareBaby has displayed a strong beginning effort. We have:

  • Engaged hundreds of families in the Maryland community in supporting our mission through donations of diapers and gear.

  • Built strong partnerships with several of Baltimore’s most highly effective community-based organizations including Dayspring Programs, House of Ruth, Sarah’s Hope and The Family Tree.

  • Reached nearly 1,000 of our City’s most vulnerable babies and small children with over 150,000 essential items including 1000,000 diapers.

  • Been accepted as an inaugural member of the Baby 2 Baby National Network.

And ShareBaby was awarded a 2016 National Diaper Bank Network Funds for Change Grant after opening Baltimore’s first diaper bank.
